Vastu has never been difficult to understand and has always shown good and best results for people who have fallowed in my practice since 1992 Vastu shastra is a ancient shastra having history
Every creature in this world tries to arrange for a place in which to live comfortably, enjoying all the luxuries and happiness of this world getting maximum benefits of heavenly boons.
Everyone is aspirant of having sound health, beautiful wife, healthy children wealth, means of earning through business, profession or state service, high reputation in society and over all mental and spiritual peace, the sea animals and amphibians prepare a dwelling place on the sea shore the birds build nests in the trees, the insect6s make a hive, and human being are ambitious of making a house on the earth where all the liabilities towards this world and towards heaven can be fulfilled without any disturbance and trouble.
Therefore, aware of the need of a house and in order to avoid troubles, man wants to construct a house on such a ground where he can feel all sorts of happiness and can lead a peaceful life free of troubles and enemies, there deriving spiritual peace.
With this aim in his mind he sets out in search of the learned wise person who can fide him in selection of a site (plot) of his choice, and also in construction of the house. He wants to know the proper auspicious time, and principles (laws) of construction of the house.
Also he has in mind the colony or city, neighborhood, sources of water, natural environment, means of transport, etc. while selecting a plot for building a house at the same time he thinks of his own interest and profession. The external features of the plot can be know with the help of persons living around or nearby the flat. But the quality and nature of the land can be judged only by shastra. Therefore the selection of a sire and the plan of the building is materialized only after consultation and seeking advice of expert astrologer and vaastu specialist.
There are saying like.
Nadi Shotriya Raja Devagyo Na Chikitasak Tatra Vaso Na Karavaya.
A place where there is no river (source of water-pond or well etc) scholar, astrologer , ruler and medical expert should not be selected for living therein, it should be rejected.
Dushta Barya Shath Mitra Bhratiyaschottar Dayak.
Sasarpe Ch Grahey Vaso Mirturev Na Sanshaya.
If there is house in which lives an unfaithful wife, a foolish friend an outspoken servant and a snake the owner of such a house may die any moment.
If such things are associated with the house constructed by someone, the life of the inmates becomes troublesome and unhappy and there is always fear of death.
Therefore everyone is curious to know as to what is Vaastu Shashtra, and what principles and methods regarding construction of buildings have been given by the ancient saints and seers on the basis of their experience and commands in the divine scriptures. With the help of Vaastu Shastra and Shilpshastra. Knowledge about the better and auspicious way of construction of a house the positions and direction of gates, doors and rooms etc, in it is gained so that a house may be built which will provide all round prosperity and happiness to the inmates. Thus Vaastu Shashtra provides some principles and rules on the guidelines of which suitable and comfortable buildings for residence, temples. Etc is built and town’s colonies are planned.

VASTU FOR GENERAL.
A proper house to live in is the prime necessity for every living being. Habitat is related to the very birth of the creature, whether it is a marine animals or birds or a land animal. Everybody, rich or poor me and even the gods if descend n the earth, require a house to live in. so vishwakarma had first of all given the methods of construction and decoration of buildings. It is known as Vaastu Shastra or the architecture. References to these methods and art are found in the sources of ancient Indian Culture such s the Vedas, purans, Ramayana, Mahabharata and other sanskrit epics. In astrology also, the ancient scholars have given the auspicious times (muhurt) for procuring a plot of land or starting the construction work of a house or first entry in the newly built house etc.
The intention of these methods of construction propounded by the ancient saints, seers and scholars, and transmitted through the generations, has been that human beings in this world may build a house which will bring health, happiness and all round prosperity for the inmates; a house which helps in achieving the best in the four groups (chaurvarg) dharm, arth, kaam and moksha and attaining divinity. A place, natural or built by the living beings which protects them from heat cold rains storms and adverse conditions of natures is know by different name in different cases. Eg. A house, nest, den burrow etc.
Man is the most superior among all the animals. It is expected of him that he builds a proper place or house for not only himself and his family, but also for other animals or things also with which he has some association, keeping in view their proper safety and maintenance. Also he should earn nobility by constructing dharamshala, temples , wells ponds etc. for the benefit of one and all. At the time of wedding, it is a tradition in Indian culture, that the bride puts seven conditions (saptpadi) before the groom one of them is that if he promises to build a temple/garden/pond/well/ dharmashala.etc for public utility and benefit of the others, then only she will accept to be his wife. The groom has to promise and then it becomes the sacred duty of the man to build some house to keep his promise.

In the construction f multi-storied commercial complexes all the principles of vaastu shastra can not be followed so easily as in case of residential houses. The builder of such complexes wants to utilize each and every corner of the space available for construction leaving any space open, without any construction there may not be profitable to the builder. Commercial complexes which are constructed in accordance with the rules of Vaastu shastra become popular and prove to be beneficial and profitable to the business that is carried on from that campus. Vastu for temple.
The aim of human life is to wish for the welfare of all while carrying on those responsibilities of worldly deeds. For all sorts of good deeds, towards the family and other people, for inspiration and performances, all deeds are closely related to building a house. For benevolence point of view every one should contribute and cooperate with the government bodies in the plan of constructing and managing Dharam-shalas, well pond temple grains depot etc and also such deeds should be performed individually by everyone.
In olden times, rich and wealthy persons had been materializing such plan under the culture and religious activities in our country. In modern period also educational institutions Dharmashala, Rain Basera (overnight came) water hut, temple etc, are constructed and are managed for the benefit of common people by donors and wealthy persons in the society, welfare of is possible only when everyone in this world bears the responsibility of carrying on the business of the world by his good deeds thinking the supremacy of the creator of this world in himself.
Objective of the man is this life is not only the welfare of himself and the family, but also everyone has to earn reward for good deeds (punya) such as construction of temple etc. for which he receives in return fame and growth of family other people also get inspiration from such noble deeds for benevolence.
There are so many ways of benevolent deeds. Construction of temple, we or ponds for drinking water for the public, Dharamshala etc. are some important deeds. Vaastu Shastra has described the importance and types such works.
Those who get a temple constructed at a beautiful site, where there are lush gardens and sufficient water in wells, ponds etc. for the sake of enhancement of religions and fame, will definitely gain heavenly pleasure.
The land of construction of a temple should be tested; only such land is good and auspicious for construction of a house; selection should therefore be made as per directives given for selection of sire elsewhere in this book.
For construction of temple, Vaastu pad of sixty four squares should be made. Main gates should be constructed in the centre of all the four sides, which is auspicious. Half of the breadth should be kept for the Garbhgriha (Central room where idol is to be placed). All round the Grabhagribaa, on hath (Cubit) wide path should be provided for circumambulations. (Parikrama) and then the wall be constructed around it. One fourth of the breadth of Garbhgriha should be the width of the door. Height of the door should be twice the width of door. The temple or place of worship should be in the north-east portion of the building. This is the best direction for worship and prayers according to vastu shastra. Though all the directions are good and auspiciousness of the land etc. are famous and popular through the world.
Takshshila University, Mohenjodaro, TajMahal, several palaces and temples in India have a prominent place in the art of vaastu not only in India, but in the whole world.
In south the Tirupati Balaji temple Rameshwaram temple, Meenakshi temple in Madurai, Vivekanand memorial in Kanyakumari, Jagannath temple in puri, badrikasram in the north, kamakshyadevi temple in Assam, Vishwanath temple in varanasi are some such places where people feel mental and spiritual peace as desired.
Whether it be a temple of a well, pond etc, or a house, it is the proper selection of land and direction etc and construction at proper and auspicious time(muhurt) according to the principles of vaastu shastra that its fame spread far and wide even after thousands of years have passed. Those buildings which have become by Vaastu-shanti and vaastu pooja. It is good and auspicious to do so, as it will remove default regarding vaastu if any from that building.
North east direction is very important in the construction of a building. This direction should be very well considered. No large and heavy rooms or materials should be kept in this portion. The owners cannot progress if they do so, nor can the inmates develop and flourish. If this portion is extended outwards and open, it provides all happiness, mental and spiritual peace and prosperity and progress.
North east direction is best for offering prayers to god, so temple or pooja room should be made in this direction and it is auspicious to offer prayer and worship sitting face towards east or north.
Dakshinayan and Uttarayan must be considered for consecration of idols is auspicious to establish and consecrating the idols of shiva ling in the month of Shravan of goddess Durga(Bhagwati Jagadamba) in Ashwin and lord Vishnu in Margshirsh. Gods having hot temper, such as Bhaira Narsingh and Mahishasur Mardini Durga should be established and consecrated in the period of Dakshinayan and those of calm noble temper in the period of uttarayan. The day , date (tithi), Paksh (forthnight) constellation, Lagna etc. should also be considered for the purpose.
After the land has been selected the owner should consult and learned astrologer to find out and auspicious time(muhurat) to start the construction of the house which would bring him health, wealth, prosper and good fortune. Generally construction of house, temple, palaces (Raj Bhawan) , city etc should not be stared or first entry (grah-pravesh) should not be accomplished during the period Ashadh Shukla to kartik shikla, when gods are asleep (Dev Shayan). Muhurat (auspicious times) for construction of house or starting the work have been given in the panchangs. Astrologers have expressed their own different views about starting the construction work. According to vasturaj vallabh, leo constellation (Singhasth), Vyatipat Vidhriti, Dagdhtithi, Guru 9 Jupiter Shukra (Venus) when set, weak moon, Rikta Tithi (4/9/14) are not auspicious for starting house construction work or any other good and auspicious work. Some scholars are of the opinion that if jupiter or venus are set (Tara) it doesn”t matter.
Give below are the sun sankranties during which if construction work is started it gives varied results.
Sun in the Aries (Mesh) Rashi 14April to 13May very good

Among the month, Baisaakh, Shravan, Margshirsh Magh and Falgun are good for the work. Bhadrapad and Kartik are also normally permissible.
Among the months, Baisaakh, Shravan, Margshirsh Magh and Falgun are good for the work. Bhadrapad and kartik are also normally permissible.
Construction work should be started on the dates(tithes) 2,3,5,6,7,10,11,12,13,15 and the 1st of Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight).
Prohibited date-Starting the construction work on the dates 1,4,8,9,14 and 30 (Amavas) brings poverty, loss of wealth , loss of money death of wife, fear from the rulers. Therefore work should not be started on these dates.
Constellations – The Nakshatras Rohini, Mrigshira, Chitra, Hast,Swati, Anuradha, Uttarashdah , Utar Bhadrapad , Uttr Falguni,Dhanshta,Shatbhisha, Revati are good for starting the house construction work.
Lagna-Aries,Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Scropio , Aquarius and Pisces Lagna, when it is not Panchban and it is not the period of Bhoomi Shayan, and there is some beneficial planet in the centre and triangle positions, and the eight house is beneficial when there are cruel planets in 3rd, 6th and 11th houses, such periods are good for auspicious starting of the construction work.
Bhoomi Shayan- On the day of constellations 5/7/9/12/19/26 from the constellation in which sun is situated the earth is sleeping (Bhoomi Shayan) and on these days also during the 4/8/5/3/6/7 Ghati it is so; in remaining Ghatis it is not Bhoomi Shayan.
Bhoomi Shayan defect(Dosh) is there on the 5/7/9/11/15/20/22/23/28th day from the solar Sankranti according to some astrologers, and others take it only 7/9/15/21 and 24th day.
Days –Monday , Wednesday, Thursday,Friday and Saturday are good days to start construction work. On Sunday or Tuesday starting the work should be avoided.
For starting the house construction work., Vrish –vasta calculation should be done. If the constellation of the day counted from that of the sun comes upto 7, it is inauspicious, next 11 it is god and next 10 are again inauspicious. Abhijeet should also be included in counting.
In auspicious (unlucky)
11 Auspicious (Lucky)
10 in auspicious (Unlucky)
28 constellations Result of the count from constellation of the sun to that of the moon.
Vishisht yoga (Special combinations ) have also been described for the state of house construction. The combination of seven sakar (starting with “S” viz. Sturday, Swati nakshatra, Singh (Leo) Lagna Shukla Paksha (Moonlit fortnight), Seventh tithi, Shubh yoga and Shravan month, is very good for starting the work of a house. It will fetch to the owner growth of all wealth and fortune along with the gain of conveyance, wealth and prosperity, sons and grandsons etc.
Shani swati singh lagan shukla parkshascha saptami.
Shubh yoga sharawanshcha sakarasapt kirtitah.
House construction is not allowed in singh (Leo) Lagna, it should not be started in this Lagna alone, but if the above combination is there with Singh Lagna starting of the work is auspicious.
House construction started in Shukla Paksha brings happiness, while that in Krishna Paksha it brings loss.
Therefore it is better to start the construction work after well consideration of the Shukla or Krishna Paksha.
Auspicious good time should be selected for starting the work of a house learned astrologer should be consulted because by doing so the construction work will g on smoothly, there will be no hindrances or problems, work will be completed soon successfully. Often it has been observed that if the work is started without caring for the auspicious moment, the work has to be stopped in between due to financial difficulties or other problems and left incomplete. Not only financial loss, it brings loss of mental peace also. Therefore house construction work must be started after full consideration specially if the above mentioned facts are cared for; the work will be auspicious, successful and fruitful.
PRINCIPALS OF VASTU
Whatever construction be done on the land be it a residential house, or industrial organization, or a public institution, temple etc., in each case it is auspicious and beneficial to keep the following points in mind while purchasing a plot of land or constructing a building.
VASTU AND SCIENCE.
It is rational: Vaastu is the study of impact of the Sun’s rays on the earth. Vaastu reads the characteristics of a house and explains its effects on the residents in a scientific manner, we can surely count it among the other sciences.
It is permanent: The principles of vaastu is based on directions which are permanent. Likewise the effects of vaastu are also permanent.
It is beneficial: The basic purpose of vaastu is to make the lives of people happier and problem free.
It is universal: Since vaastu is based on the properties of the earth and the sun, it is surely universal. Nationality, religions, caste etc. have nothing to do with the science of vaastu, it is equal for one and all.
It is practicable: it is very simple to follow. Build your house according to the guidelines provided by vaastu and lead a healthy and happy life.
Since it possesses all the features mentioned above and is based on action cause and effect it can most defiantly be concluded that it is a science.
According to vaastu, there are 5 basic elements in the whole world. They are the earth, water, air, fire heat and light and sky cosmic. Vaastu is science of balancing these elements in the proper proportions for prospect and harmony.
In a border sense vaastu is a science of directions and it accounts for 8 directions; North, south, East , West, North East, North West, South-East and South West.
FACT OF GRAH PRAVESH.
Description and guidelines for all the processes right from the selection on site to construction of the building, and of orientation of various rooms in directions, height of the rooms, positions of the doors etc. is found in vaastu shastra. Actually the text guide us to plan and construct a town, temple, residential house, cattle shed, or any other building equipped with all necessary amenities for the comfort and utility of mankind is give then name vaastu shastra which has been divinely described in Indian culture and scriptures.
Graha Pravesh (i.e. first entry into the newly built house) is also as important aspect of Vaastu Shastra and it has to be dealt with here in this book. After the house is complete in all respects, living in that houses is started at some auspicious moment determined on astrological considerations. The first entry in the house at the auspicious moment is called Graha Pravesh Ceremony. Three types of Graha Pravesh have been mentioned in the scriptures.
(1) Apoorva- First Entry to live in house newly constructed on a newly selected land is called Apoorva (new) Graha Pravesh.
(2) Sapoorva- Entry into an already existing house to live in it after travelling abroad or migration elsewhere, is called sapoorva graham pravesh.
(3) Dwandwah- Entry into an house to live in it after reconstruction/renovation of the house damaged by fire, flood waters, electricity, wind etc, is termed as Dwandwah (or old) Graha Pravesh.
Scriptures have described the procedures of Graha Pravesh at auspicious time (muhurut) and purity (defectless) of panchang. For apoorva Graha Pravesh perfect auspicious time should be adhered to and fro Graha Pr5avesh in a reconstructed house or after migration the purity of Panchang should be given consideration.
If the doors of a house are not fitted with shutters, or the roof is not covered, or the God, Vaastu have not been worshipped and offered scarifies, and if the priests etc. have been not been offered feast, first entry into such house (Graha Pravesh) should not be accomplished till the above things are completed, otherwise living in that house will be full of troubles and miseries. It is very essential to determine the directions correctly. In absence of the correct demarcation of directions, positions of various rooms, and doors etc. will be faulty which will change the whole situation of the house. It may turn into situation against the principles of Vaastu Shastra rendering the house inauspicious. Necessity of correct marketing of directions is also expressed in our scriptures.
Prasade Sadane alinde dware kunde visheshtah;
Dik moodhe kulnasha syatasmatsa shodhay eddishah.
Ie. It is necessary to determine the directions correctly while constructing a temple, palace, house, gates porch, pond etc in proper direction.
Therefore as per instructions of Vaastu Shashtra, a building construction should be started only after marking of the directions, east west etc.
In ancient scriptures, methods for determining the directions with the head of the shadow formed when a cone is placed in such on the open plot or be observing the pole-star or other constellations in the night.
Now a days, directions can easily be marked by the architects with the head of the compass. Direction and position of a room or gate etc. can be correctly decided only when the constructions work is started after marking the directions properly.
It can be noted that several magnificent building built without proper consideration of direction are being rectified under the expert guidance of learned architects and scholars or Vaastu Shastra. Therefore it is better to start the work after determining the directions so that the building is constructed according verandahs (balconies) and also the rooms are constructed in proper place and in proper direction, there remains no defect in the building, and inmates are blessed with all the happiness and good fortune.
Just as it is necessary to think over the merits and demerits of the plot of land as mentioned in Vaastu Shastra, one has to be much more cautions the construction of the building. A building constructed according to the basic principles given in Vaastu Shastra keeps the inmates happy and prosperous. In modern sense, to make the five basic materials viz; earth water, fire, air and space favourable to the house is the very essence of Vaastu Shastra. Therefore while constructing a house, rules or principles given in Vaastu Shastra regarding direction, shape, level should be taken into consideration. For example, south-east corner is the seat of the god or fire, Agnidev. So Kitchen and any room for works related to fire/heat should be made in this corner, then only the house will be trouble free. Constructions against the laws of nature at one’s own will may cause pollution, which gives rise to many other problems of health, fear etc that will result in loss of wealth , property and life also.
Directions have very much significance in the construction of a building. The four directions have their own importance, where as the corners formed by the concurrence of two direction are much more important because effects of both the directions can be felt at the corners. The gods governing these directions are noted below:-
God’s name effect
East Indra progress & growth
South east Agni Energy, vigour, strength
South yama death
South west Nairut (Demon) purity & cleanliness
West varun water
North west vayu air/winds
North kuber wealth & Prosperity
North west Eeshwar Religions, Divinity
Vertically above Brahma Spiritual knowledge
Below Anant resources, worldly pleasures.
These gods govern the directions and control the various areas as given above. For successful implementation of any plan, the concerned god is worshipped. Room or space in a particular direction should be used for a purpose suitable to the nature of the god and the material he controls in that area. That is how to avoid defects of Vaastu. The god controlling the area in the house is worshipped and offers made to please him, requesting for his blessings and peaceful happy life.

A bit about tarot by . R. Vij the major Arcana. The fool’s journey
The journey through the 22 major arcane cards is a passage through the archetypal experiences of humanity and the many states of being, as if culled from our collective unconscious. The number 22 is significant because in numerology22 is one of the master numbers (as are 11 and 33). 22 is the number of the master builder, and the journey through the 22 major aracana cards is masterfully built on a structure of cycles. Tarot archetypes speak as freshly today as they did in medieval spain, mythic Altantis , or ancient Egypt for universal life experiences transcend boundaries of space and time.
Our tarot journey begins with the first major aracana card: the freedom loving fool. He represents new beginnings as he starts his heroic quest for self knowledge. In his native innocence, the fool is very creative for he does not yet know rules or limiations. He is the court jester, village idiot, clown, time traveler speakers of truth, and prodigal son. Mythologist Joseph Campbell interpreted the fool as the hero with 1000 faces. His number is 0, the empty vessel waiting to be filled. He is ruled by the planet Uranus, the planet of revolution and liberation.
The waite rider deck shows a youth about to step off a cliff. He could crash downward, or instead soar to the highest heavens because he took a creative risk and has faith. The Crowley deck shows the fool with all things there for the taking. The Hebrew letter at the bottom of the card is aleph, meaning ox.
Divinatory meaning of the fool: now is the time to take a risk or seek adventure because you are guided by faith, folly or fancy. Be open to new opportunities. But those who are uncomfortable with change may dislike experiencing the fool card because they are not used to freedom and taking creative risks with an unknown outcome.
Once the fool takes a risk, he finds his power in the next card, the mighty magician. Under the magicians influence all will powered endeavors are manifested. This is a powerful man who can work magician and heal.
In the waite-rider deck, the Magician holds a wands in his upraised hand. The wand is a conductor of energy from heaven to earth. On the magician’s table are symbols of the four elements; the wand of fire, the cup of water, the sword of air, and the pentacle of earth. All four magical tools can be picked up are used as needed.
The magician is called the Magus in the crowle deck. The plural form of the word magus is magi. The three wise men, or magi (magicians), visited the Christ child at his humble birth in a manager. They brought the gifts of frankincense which is sacred to the sun, myrrh which is sacred to the moon, and gold which is the alchemist’s metal. The Crowley deck magus is depicted having a breakthrough of power and perception. The wings on his feet and the caduceous of his head are symbols of Mercury (Greek Hermes), the messenger who connects humanity with the divine. The Hebrwe letter on the bottom of the magus card is both, meaning house.
Divinatory meaning of the magician and magus ; you are completely in your power and can manifest your goals. You are experiencing magical strength are can actualize your desires through your own creativity and will.
NOTE: the smaller sized Crowley thoth tarot deck includes one magician and two magus cards. Select only one magus 1 card for your tarot readings. The two extra cards may be used as back marks or altar objects.
The magician cannot be fully realized without his anima (female half), the mystic PRIESTESS. The magician has outer magical tools, but the priestess possesses inner magical tools. She is ruled by the moon and represents the eternal feminine. She is the psychic healer who knows the great women’s mysteries of birth, life and death. She embodies wisdom, serene knowledge, intuitive judgement, and common sense.
In the waite-rider deck, the priestess is enthroned with the moon and water at her feet. The moon and water are feminine symbols of the ever-changing lunar cycles linked to tides and menstrual fluid. She wears the crown of the goddesses Isis and Hathor. The priestess sits in the middle of the kabbalistic pillars of female and male. On the black pillar to her right is the letter “B” for Binah, the mother, the receptive principle. Black is the color of night and the womb, the deep mystery far within. The white pillar of the priestess left is inscribed with the letter “J” for Hehovah, a male god. He represents the protective father and the masculine principle of expansion. Behind the priestess is a garden of pomegranates and palms, symbolic of female and male genitalia. In her lap is scroll which reads tora, which are the first five books of moses, the “Old Testament” of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. Tora is an anagram for taro (the cards) and rota, the ever-revolving wheel.
The Crowley Thoth deck Priestess is veiled and very cosmic looking. She weaves light energy that is magnified by crystals. She has the huntress bow of the goddess Artemis (Roman Diana). Crystals are at her feet, as is the self-sustained camel who carriers within the nurturing waters. The Hebrew letter on the bottom of the Priestess card is gimel, meaning camel.
The feminine so exhaulted brings us to the EMPRESS enthroned. She represents the full cornucopi of an abundant harvest. She is the nurturing Earth, mother, the outer manifestation of the inner spirit of the priestess. The empress is pregnant, full of life, and symbolizes the fertile womb. Birth, the amazing act of creation, is in her realm. Both the empress and priestess are seated on thrones. Perhaps the first thrones were birthing stools.
The empress is ruled by the planet Venus, the goddess of love and beauty (Greek Aphrodite). The empress is a harvest of all that has been planted; the creative energy of the empress satisfies the fool’s venturing , as the balance of the magicians masculine energy and the priestess feminine energy combine to create the child/harvest of the empress.
The venus symbol is enclosed in a heart on the waite-rider image. The crowned empress sits before a background of lush vegetation and a gently curving river. The venus symbol decorates her heart shaped shield. In the Crowley deck, the enthroned empress shown with the fertility symbols of the crescent mod and a swan with cygnets. The Hebrew letter on the bottom of the empress card is daleth, meaning door.
Divinatory meaning of the Empress. Your energies are balanced and harmonious. You will be fortunate and secure with material matters such as finding a job or a place to live. The empress is ruled by venus so adorn yourself with jewellery and your finest clothing.
All seems blessed on the journey through the archetypes, but the fiery emperor appears to command the garden. He represents power and domination. The emperor is a pioneer, leader and explorer. He is a warrior who has the strength to go forth and succeed. He is a man of action. In imperial china, the emperor’s symbol was the Dragon that represented masculine yang energy. (The Empress symbol was the phoenix that represented female yin energy.) Emperors throughout history, from caeser to Napoleon, possess the traits of absolute power, dogmatic authority and iron will which if not properly handled can become corrupt.
When successfully channeled, the emperor can be a dynamic, strong, focused and incisive catalyst for change and creation. Yet he often wants things his way only and can be intolerance, even ruthless, if others do not agree with his methods. Or he quickly losses interest and does not complete what was enthusiastically initiated.
The emperor is ruled by the astrology sign Aries, so rams surround his throne in both the waite-rider and Crowley thoth decks. The emperor is portrayed holding the scepter of masculine energy in his right hand and the orb of feminine energy in his left hand. Therefore he does possess the power of balanced action. The Hebrew letter on the bottom of the card is tzddi, meaning fish hook.
Divinatory meaning of the emperor. There is potential for much growth and movement, and to start projects with fiery passion, leadership, power and enthusiasm. Goals must be aggressively pursued. This is not a time for passive inactivity. Be aware to not inflict your will on others and insist they do as you decree. Don’t tell them what to do, insisting that it is for their own good.
The emperor has conquered and is trying to control. But he is too inpatient to rule in an organized manner. Aries as the emperor cannot finish what he begins, hence the stern HIEROPHANT appears to create laws to maintain peace and order. His authoritative ruler ship can be hierarchical, one dimensional, patriarchal and repressive.
When the HIEROPHANT appears in your tarot reading, there will be structure and order in the land, such as rigid societal rules that dictate one must work from nine to five and that children must attend school from nine to three so they are socialized to work from nine to five. The HIEROPHANT’S system cannot be changed, for it is ruled by Taurus, a fixed earth sign, and is inflexible. The HIEROPHANT’s positive attribute is that he can be a teacher, father figure, or spiritual authority on religious issues. He can bring codes of conduct that offer structure, security , and harmony still, his word is law. This card appears when one must follow an organized structure or ritual, such as a school curriculum, the military or the experience of women in the corporate world.
The waite-Rider deck shows a religious figure pope, with two priests below him. The Crowley deck shows the HIEROPHANT figure surrounded by the four elements in the fixed astrology signs in the four corners of the card. The lion represents Leo, fixed fire,. The eagle represents Scorpio, fixed water. The human head represents Aquarius, fixed air. In the left corner the fixed earth Taurus bull is shown again. The Hebrew letter at the bottom of the card is vav, meaning nail.
Divinatory meaning of the HIEROPHANT; Accept your niche within his structure, conform, learn from the discipline, and plan it to your advantage. If the rigidity is too unbearable, you may choose to rebel and leave, (In the rare instance, this card may indicate the stern yet loving patriarch. Still, his word is law.).
